Both actors get paid approximately 1.5 crores for a movie meanwhile their annual tax return is about 2 crore only.
Residence and Offices of Mohanlal and Mammootty were raided on july 22.Both of them have residence and offices in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennal and Bangalore.
Certain documents were initially recovered; tax return files were not proportionate to the actual income. 20 Lakhs cash were found from Mammooty's residence. Valuable paintings ,elephant tusks , archaeological materials were recovered from Mohanlal's residence. Inorder to assess the values of all these, higher officials from income tax department will be furthur appointed.Almost 75 officers from the income tax department were there to raid simulatenously all the offices and residences which are located in 3 states. Unestimated amount in their bank account is yet to be determined by the officers. Its also known that Mohanlal is trying to buy a flat in Burj Khalifa.
At the time of raid Mohanlal was in a film shoot at Rameswaram and Mammootty at Chennai.The officers were not able to open the shelf of Mohanlal's house since it used biometric locking system. Mohanlal and Mammootty will be questioned furthur. Both of them admitted to have assets beyond their income.Hereafter they agreed to pay the penalty.IT officials reported that the final report will be prepared within 2 months.
